engine "tapping" noise HGT

can anyone advise me on a tapping noise coming from my engine, it was a friend who pointed it out and ive only had the car a week! the tapping is intime with the engine revs! 99 model, with 40,000 on the clock, im really worried about cam belt problems also

is it a tap or a click?
The injectors make a clicking noise as they do on all cars, some more than others. My mates HGT has quite a notable click from the injectors which isnt a problem. Just a thought as I cant hear the engine.
