Tuning engine start gas consumtion

hi there i drive a fiat uno 60s mk1 1988 1116cc
the problem is when i start the car the gas needle drops a notch or 2 every time almost.
however when i drive along it doesnt move much,it only seems to be bad when i start the engine again

i warm the engine corecctly and take the coke off when required.

any input will be great thanks

I'f I had to guess there is a problem with the level sensor in the tank...

perhaps, but the needle doesnt move back at all. its like its chewing a hugh chunk of gas just to start

Suspect the float is getting stuck and not dropping smoothly, possibly, starting vibrations loosens it and it catches up to consumption of last trip.

Like if you start and stop the engine a few times without driving, does it keep dropping, or stay the same?

it stays the same but i had the car off a few weeks back and it wasnt sticking

What's the fuel consumption, brim to brim?

What do the plugs look like?

form gas light to quarter tank i get about 80kms if its just to take mrs and myself to work

Needs to be brim to brim to be remotely accurate.

But, if consumption is OK, plugs look OK, I'd be inclined to go with the sticky float theory. After all, it's a guage, not an instrument, and will only really be accurate when full or empty, even when working optimally!
