Hi all,
I've got an interesting problem with my wife's Panda 1000 fire.
Out of the blue the engine stalls when trying to pull off.
It idles ok and if you manually open the throttle quickly it will run upto high revs, when you let the revs drop to idle then slowly increase revs it dies.
May be fuel starvation or too much fuel?
The car did this when we first got it.
I have decarbed the head and valves, new points, dizzy and arm+ condenser. ht leads and sparks. New battery and regulator on alternator.
Could this be a carb issue, as when i got stranded at a roundabout after checking the entire setup ( ig timing , points gap, fuel mixture and idle speed) some kindly old man said that a diaphram in the carb / fuel pump might be at fault.
She has driven over a 1000 miles before the fault occurred again.
Tried flooding carb with carb cleaner and this seemed to do the trick for about half a mile then it did it again.
This has happened 4 times with no rhyme or reason that i can see.
Any ideas would be welcome.

Float in Carb sticking. Likely carb is worn and could do with a total rebuild by somebody who specialises at it or you could try a strip and clean first.

I had similar symphoms with my sisley.

I was forced to set off with choke out each time or reve the engine before cluch engagded.

Good carb clean solved my issue, plus extra care to all both air jets, acceleration pump/ membrane (battery side at the back ) front membrane, emulsion tube, Half a tin of carb cleaner and lots of comresed air sprayed in almost any posible hole.

Wow.
Thanks very much for your replies.
Can't believe what an amazing site this is, wish it had been around 20 years ago, I might have had time for another hobby (Ha ha!)
Definitely going for a strip down and rebuild.
I found a weber 32/36 trouble shooting guide which I will post up and also found an animated exploded diagram on you tube for the 32tlf which i'll attach a link to.
The sticky float sounds likely due to the random intermitence of the fault but full rebuild can't hurt.
Thanks again:):)

I've got this same problem currently... ha ha, can't believe I took the condenser off when I got home with a view to swapping it with the one on the 4x4... I know, I know... sh*t for brains or what? (it's got the electronic module fitted...)
I thought I'd got water in the fuel when it 1st did it a few weeks ago...(after really heavy rain & flooding) now I'm thinking the fuel filter element has gone and letting bits of debris through (been on 10k miles, but is only a small one...)

She'll keep going with choke half out which surely tends to suggest a blocked jet..?

all good fun hopping long

I'm going to change the fuel filter first then if that don't cure it, swap the carb for the 4x4's (will it fit?) then PM Jacob by the sound of it... :worship:

Well, I don't know if this will help the thread starter, but I've just got in from my local garage having been there all day. (I just went for a new fuel filter and she just would not start after fitting it...) I was convinced it was a fuel issue and did eventually swap the carb for the 4*4's which was no help...
Late this afternoon someone suggested swapping the coil and has it happened they had an old Lucas unit, which, once fitted seemed to cure the problem!
Driven back with no issues but time will tell...

Good luck... -- it's why I have a brand-new Lucas DLB105 sitting on Pippin's passenger seat, for when I'm eventually well enough to get back to seeing to the poor thing's ignition fault....

Started 1st turn this morning - left it running on drive. No problems - got just over a mile and she cut out - same problems. This now only leaves weak fuel pump or some kind of blockage in tank or fuel line... :bang:
Another penniless day and there's bills to be paid... can't put 4*4 back on road as it is now carbless... so looks like Ellen time - big sis to the rescue :slayer:

ha ha, i'm back, for second coffee to calm mi'nerves lol
Luckily she broke down within walking distance... good job I 'work' for myself
They had a condenser in stock all along... just fitted new and she started st away!
Driven home no probs, now hoping to get lift to fetch Ellen back.
Is she cured? "Place your bets now."
I think a thread of essential Panda-related spares to carry would be a good idea maybe?

Thanks Homeward mate (y)

hmm, *thinks*, I left it running on drive this morning and it conked after about a mile... so in effect it did more like 2-3 miles and I've driven it back without a problem just the 1m... so, that means it could yet happen again in another 1-2 m...

I think scout started one -- the idea being our respective daughters could have everything they needed in the boot for that rare(?!) time an AA/RAC man is needed; so that they weren't left stranded.
Freebo: can we have a sticky started, please? Might be worth listing essential tools, as well....

Can I start by suggesting a coil, hammer, punch, multimeter, and a new ignition switch...? ;)
Dragon Man -- no suggestions of a spare engine; propshaft, if you have a 4x4; or a full set of suspension...! (Although the back seat of my first Beetle -- as well as hiding the 6v battery -- did have a fuel pump; various hoses; a heat-exchanger, etc. hidden under it, at one point....)
