the kids left the interior lights on the car last night, so had to jump start it today.

Since then whilst not in gear the car revs up to 4000 rpm and then back down again until it is put in gear or turned off

Will this problem go away, or is there something i can do to stop it?

yes.first make sure you have a radio code for your radio[if it is a coded model],then undo the battery leads for an hour or two.put them back on,and the ECU will relearn the mapping required.

No need to wait, just disconnect battery leads & hold them together for 10 seconds to discharge any internal capacitors. If that dont work then you could be looking at damaged ECU while jump starting.......common fault as any salesman will tell you :D

Dependent upon age of kids. Handcuffs, blindfold, gag, sharp pointy stick - all of these would help.

I'm not feeling very child-friendly today. Eldest son ran up £155 mobile & landline bills in 1 month. Have just received invoices. He has also scratched the Punto roof by driving into carpark barrier.

Sorry to hear of difficulties. My Multi has never done anything like that. It has certainly made me think on the dangers of boost-starting.

Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

I tried to save 30pence by shooting through the barrier while it was up (car before me paid & went through) but barrier came down on the roof :( ...cost me more than 30p to get that fixed

Just pull the electrical connection off the fuel injetion, this will make it run rough but put straight back on and hey presto

Klynn, you should have this seen to! Fiat use a `fly-by -wire throttle,...and you don`t want it to develop a mind of it`s own! It will either be the throttle itself, or the ECU (there are two of them, one for the diesel multirail, one for everything else) Technically you`re `illeagal` as the car could run away!

Pop into a good diagnostic garage,- out this one to bed! salut Ruggero.
