Sometimes when I turn the key the car starts right away. Other times the engine turns over and over fir a long time then it eventually starts. Anyone know why? Its always after the car has been sitting overnight

Whilst eu cars differ our now 16 year old 1.2 car fires virtually instantly, one thing I do is pause between ignition and actual cranking over to build fuel pressure and allow the ecus to settle.
Not sure if your car is a uni air type and they are a grey area for me though I believe oil pressure has a role to play so not impossible to understand if left over night, oil spec or thickness may also play a greater role in cold climates ie winter?
If possible use a genuine oil filter, order online?

TA starts as quick as the 1.2. I find the 1.2s get more tempremental when coming up to a service. They do vary more so in winter when I feel it takes a period for sensors to move thingsfor an effe tive cold start. Dirty MAP sensor has an impact and its a simple task to do yourself. Damp mornings definitely slow starts as well. I agree with JOHN 202020 about waiting for lights to go out before starting (as per handbook). I dont think its worrying just notable behaviour.

Ours has been doing the same. Just changed the plugs today (thread posted here)....so will let you know how I get on. Plugs were quite fouled.
