My Multi has started making a kind of clattering noise over the past week.
It's not noticeable at idle but you can hear it above around 1500rpm and it speeds up as the engine does.
Any ideas?

Cambelt et al was changed mid last year.

It is a 105 JTD ELX

THanks

I had this prob turned out to be loose engine mount or maybe snaped

Hi

We have a similar problem

We recently had the Head Gasket replaced, Head Skimmed and cam belt replaced by a non-fiat mechanic. (I did not want to drive the car with the HG blown)

Since we got the car back;

It makes a low Grrrrrrrrrr noise at idle, As I accellerate, it gets pretty loud, then the noise goes away as I get to 2600, 3000 revs.

I also have lots of little bubbles coming up from the engine into the coolant overflow bottle. The Bubbles increase when I rev the engine and they are there when the engine is hot or cold.

The engine often just stops at low RPM, when coming to a stop or reversing; it just dies on us.

When Idling, the LED Light on the dash also flicers slightly

I will be taking it to a Fiat Dealer to have it diagnosed on Monday.
I will post the outcome next week.

My concerns are;
  • Head Gasket was not fixed properley; or
  • White Coolant/Oil Mix Gunge in Engine when HG was blown may not have been flushed properly and may have since have blocked oil filter; restricting oil flow. (hence the noise is less at higher RPM as more oil is forced through the filter); or
  • Cam Belt Tensioners / Pulleys were not replaced or tension was set incorrectly; or
  • Cam Belt has been fitted incorrectly... Could the Grrrrrr be valves hitting pistons? (I hope not); or
  • Alternator is busy breaking apart; or
  • a combination of the above.
I will appreciate If anyone here has had a similar problem and can advise what they think the problem is.

Many Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Had a bit of a better poke around today. Above the cam-belt there is a plastic casing. Inside here seems to be another belt. Can anybody tell Me what the belt connects? Seems the noise may be coming from under that plastic cover.

Hi Snoo

It is your Cam Belt beneath the cover. If it is making a noise, get it checked asap. If it breaks you could trash your engine.

I have a similar noise;

The mechanics at Fiat say I need a new Cambelt kit. Which I will now have done.
