Just thought of something else that keeps me awake at night.
I have noticed that my 86 4x4 engine mounts seem to have gone a bit soft exhaust regularly touching the drive shaft etc.Any advice on the service limit on these?

Thanks

Rick

Thier condition is dependent on the kind of life the car has had as well as age/ mileage so I think you'll find the range for life expectancy is quite wide. I'd say, if they're causing a problem change them, and get some sleep ;).

Hi
I was wondering what the best way to asses them is my exhaust touching may just be due to exhaust mounts getting old.The car has done about 75,000 easy miles but the rubber eengine mounts do look a bit old .

Thanks

Rick

Well it makes sense to replace the easiest and cheapest first so I will do the exhaust mounts.
But I have a nasty feeling the engine mounts need doing too.

Has anybody changed their engine mounts and could they give me an idea on price?

Thanks

Rick

Engine mounts on a Panda should only need replacing every 10 years or something as they aren't normally stressed and 10 years is around the time that the rubber perishes, forms large cracks and allows excessive movement. The process is however sped up rapidly by oil contamination. Wet with oil, the rubber will last only months. Engine/gearbox mounts are around £10 + £4 postage on eBay as a guide. They are all easy to replace and only require a trolley jack to support the engine whilst each mount is replaced.

Banging exhaust is very likely to be the exhaust mounts based on my experience though, as MEP says.

Hi Thanks for that mine are 24 years old so well overdue replacement.
