Hi there :D I have a x reg petrol 1.6 multipla. It has been a great runner until recentley! The engine management light came on a few weeks ago , so i had it put on the diagnostics machine and i had a engine tempreture censor fault, sooo i had it replaced. easy peesy!!
well..... tuesday i was on a motor way jorney and after around 70 miles and a steady 70-80 mph the engine management light popped up again same reading: ENG CNTRL FAULT , then it went into limp home mode  50mph for 20 miles!! and then the same all the way home (100 miles)
Took the car to a fiat garage next morning , had it put on the diagnostics machine and it came up : Signaling fault with no listing , so the engeiner said it could be anything?? had no idea?? and that i would have to leave the car there for a week @£50per hr!!!! :bang:
does anyone have any idea what this could be or has anyone experenced this them selves. There is no mechanical faults with the car (at the moment).

many thanks ,
Megan and Ashley :)

the engineer is lying it cant be anything as only certain faults put it in to limp mode, so that narrows it down quite considerably, i am a mechanic apprentice and have covered fault codes and have never heard of this, all sensors have an individual fault code when they are activated so it makes no sense at all.. the only possible explanation is a dodgy ecu or there scanner wasnt used properly by the mechanic hope this helps

Thanks.... how do you think i should go about this? The 'fault' has now been deleated but i am frightened to go any where?

where abouts are you in the country are you anywhere near derby, i suggest near home driving for about a week to see if the *"FAULT"* returns if it doesnt then put it down to mixed ecu signals, however if it returns have it scanned at a different garage or by me if your near derby.

what is the average reading of your temperature gauge whilst driving after about 15 mins

shaun, its not good saying a tech is lying as you do not know the full facts (there are many undefined codes) andits against ATA codeof conduct.

As it was done at a fiat garage i would assume examiner was used and i certainly wouldnt tell the customer it needs a ecu without thoroughly checking it first.

meganoufc, you need a copy of the examiner report...then we can help.

Hi, it wasn't done at a Fiat garage it was done at Fiat specialist garage. I didnt get the report he just told me it could be anything and what was flagged on the machine i.e the signaling fault
Shaun my average temp reading is 4 bars after driving 15 mins

Oh and the eng mang light has only ever come on after long runs

A fiat specialist garage that does not have examiner is not very specialist really is it?

Any code reading (wether there are errors or not) should be followed by careful monitoring of the relevent parameters.

What do you recommend?. Shall i take it to a proper fiat garage and get them to give it the good once over and a full diognostics done on it? I think maybe that might be the only solution at this point.

many apologies for saying a technician is lying, what i meant to say was the engineer should have a rough checklist as only certain faults put it in to limp mode, so that narrows it down quite considerably, i am a mechanic apprentice and have covered fault codes and have never heard of this, all sensors have an individual fault code when they are activated so it makes no sense at all.. he is correct it could be many things but he should know where to start as it is in limp mode, and just because i am an apprentice doesnt mean i am right there may be unexplainable codes that i havent covered yet. thanks

just reading your item and agree with shaun, if its in limp home mode there should be an active fault in the system . have you checked your turbo hose s are all on or got any holes in them, just for a quick check.
