Hey all!

So when I'm giving it the beans I'm getting my engine management light flashing at me now and again. I'm going to order the diagnostic kit from Gendan once I get paid but in the meantime, in the interests of fun, lets have a few guesses at what the fault will be!

The facts:

Car is a 1.6
Cambelt was (afaik successfully) about 2k miles ago
The car has a straight through cat back exhaust
The car does need serviced, but the air filter was changed around 5k miles ago
The air inlet control valve was cleaned around 5k miles ago
There is no noticable loss of power or smoke but a very slight drop in fuel economy, especially when driving hard
There is a very slight misfire at idle, but that has pretty much always been there

My money is on a coil pack or MAP sensor, what say the Fiat fanatics :)(y)?

The winner gets a pat on the back and a blue peter badge!:slayer:

If the light's flashing when it comes on as opposed to being up as a solid light then it would lead to a misfire. I'd check coils and plugs. I hope this earns me the blue peter badge, need that one for my collection.

The engine management light flashes rather than staying on solid but there is no misfire or loss of power when it happens. The plugs where changed about 8k miles ago but tbf I haven't checked the condition of them recently (y)

Got a similar problem on my 1.9 jtd stilo, when i reach 3000 rpm's the Engine Management light comes on but as soon as i take my foot off the gas for a split second it goes off again.Got a fiat tech head who does private work for me and he said it looks like the EGR valve is playing up after putting on the Diagnostics machine.Might be of some help to you.

had a similar problem on another car before i got my stilo, turned out the lamda sensor was giving the ecu false O2 reading from exhaust and the ecu light would light up,

This was my train of thought but as the guys said its flashing rather than staying on indicating a misfire so who knows :D. Diagnostics are on hold once again as I've had both front wheel bearings go so there's another £200 or so down the pan :(. I gave the car a service today so we'll see if the new plugs sort the problem (y)

No Ideas on What causing my EML either Fiat told me MAP(changed but light still up)

What I do know is GET NEW M.O.T BEFORE 1ST APRIL

when ui had mine tested back in feb MIL wasnt a fail but airbag was due to be (inplace as of 1/04/12) i dont think a MIL will ever be a fail to be honest... but im fully prepared for someone to prove to me otherwise

best way to find out is to phone your tester before test, but since mil has nothing to do with the safety of the car then it shouldnt be an issue.

Either way I tend to have it investigated and if necessary, fixed, before the MOT in may :) in norn iron the mots are run by the government so it should be a generic rule and easy enough to find out about! (y)

I'm from norn iron 2 they send you a leaflet of changes wen u book I think it said only safety mils was failure ie brakes and airbags. If you got a diesel they still don't check emissions so ur mil prob won't appear :p
