General Engine light comes on after 10 mins of driving or acceleration

Hey
I went today to a local FIAT garage here.
He used an old examiner which could connect to my 1.6 cabrio!

It had "Punto 90 GM with EGR" in the selections and showed me 3 stored problems. Coil, Lambda and shorted circuit Air-Con.
He cleared all the problems and the light won't turn on again! hooray.

The examiner looked like this:

It had WIN98 on.
Does it support all FIAT models? Would I be able to diagnose problems with my eBay OBD cable or just this machine?

Examiner is/was very high end. Sometimes copies come up on eBay, etc. but they're always very expensive.

I know of nothing that the general public have access to which will work with the 1.6 SOHC ECU. Its not OBD2 compliant and seems to use a mix of GM and FIAT protocols. Because the car wasn't exactly a raging success, developers of other software are not especially interested.

As I've suggested elsewhere, a gift (of money) to the developer of ECU Scan 2 might lead to some progress. He can be contacted through the software's Sourceforge page.

it will support all models upto the point the examiner was made basically, but as said even if you find one 2nd hand it will be very very expensive, as in i would be surprised to see one much cheaper than £1000. And you can read codes from (as far as i know) all fiat ecu's with either IAW Scan 2 or Multi-ECU-Scan except the 1.6 8v

Hi fingers I've taken head of car here's a few pics head gasket seemed fine but had a residue on some of the valves like a sticky tar around the edges and three of them were white apart from one pics below ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1401558341.852228.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1401558354.203485.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1401558376.440083.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1401558384.337424.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1401558393.564126.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1401558404.192222.jpg

Would that be oil seeping from head gasket I don't think it will be valve seals they were replaced

took head to be examined by friend who deals with them and he valves where not seated properly at all he's cleaning them all up polished and head to and checking valves for straightness charging £80 to do it he said that is why I'm having problems valves not shutting and causing over heating and steam will hopefully
Be done by Tuesday will let you know the outcome also head bolts don't need replacing on my model will be getting an elring gasket for head

I haven't replaced the head bolts either. also my mechanic said no need to tighten it up after a while.

Hi fingers my friend looked at the head and noticed that the inner seat for the inner valve spring on the head is damaged where previous person tried putting valve back can I get this repaired if I can where is the cheapest place to go I can't find any heads at all for my motor would this cause a problem with valves as it has 2 springs on valve

Hi fingers the damage is actually on the head itself where the inner spring sits on top of the head he reckons it's about £400 to get repaired or just get another head

Wow that's insane. I gave my cylinder head for a full recon for £140

Where did you get your from chesh I got quoted re manufactured £450 because of age
