The 1.2 8-valve engine is a FIRE unit, if memory serves me right. My Fiat Uno mk1 did 130k miles and was still running sweet, bodywork was too rusty though. The engine was transplanted to a uno mk2 (its original engine was running on 3 cylinders due to lack of maintenance), the engine did an additional 55k miles before being sent to the scrapyard. Still, the engine was running properly, bodywork was too rusty and beyond economical repair. FIRE units are pretty much bomb-proof, so long as you maintain them. The only cases of a Grande Punto 1.2 breaking down in when people put 17" wheels and rag the poor thing, where gearbox gives up first and then the engine. Treat your car right and it will reciprocate accordingly.
