Not and owner yet but I have a 2015 500 S 1.2L at a local dealer in view. A little surprised it has 59,000 mile on the clock for what is a town run-about. Price is £5,295 and looks good. What sort of engine and gearbox life should I expect. Have had 2L diesels for the last twenty years so I'm a bit out of the loop.

Thanks for looking, Ken

If you do a search on here there are some useful threads on this.
Some suggest 125000 miles on a test bench, but that appeared to be at full belt all the way...

The old 500 has a reputation for long engine life and things have moved a long way since then. I have not see many posts on here where the engine has blown up.

I know of one engine failure at about 125000 but have since heard it was due to someone doing the service wrong. Rags in the engine!

If you look after the car and have the oil and filters serviced it should go as long as any other engine. The two cylinder engine will rev so easily it can be easy to thrash it without meaning to. There is a Twinair "filter" on top of the engine that needs cleaning which is NOT in the service schedule. There is a lot of good info on here re that one too.

I have a Panda twin air and I am not worried about the engine life. From what I can see its smooth and free running which I think are suggestive of long life if cared for. Small engines don,t carry a lot of oil and so changing regularly is vital. The 875 cc twin is sensitive to the grade of oil used as well - likes the expensive stuff - but as I say does not have a large capacity.

There are lots around with 100,000 on the clock apparently still going well.

Good luck.

I'd rather buy a 59,000 mile car that has a service history and at a 59,000 mile price rather than a 4000 miles car thats never seen the inside of a workshop since delivery at an inflated 'low mileage' price.

The 1.2 engine is old technology and very bulletproof. Change the cam belt as soon as.

Check the boot functions all work and that the suspension top mounts are good or recently replaced and you should be good to go.

Thank you both for your comments. Went back this afternoon with my wife and she thought the grey was a bit dull but went for a test drive and began smiling. Taking delivery next week. I think I may have problems getting a turn. Had the same difficulty when we re-visited her twenties and bought a Vespa a few years ago.

Thanks again, Ken
