Hello everyone :)

I have an issue with my Stilo 1.9 JTD 115HP 2003.
I have the ENGINE FAULT light (Red color) and I have a P1320 code.
The light is intemitent, sometimes it turns off... stays a day off..then on again.
When it is on, if I rev above 4000 rpms it goes off then while the rpms fall its on again.
Sometimes engine just turns but doesn't start.
It doesn't matter if the engine is warm or not.
I suspect the CAM POSITION SENSOR...

Any ideas on how test the sensor ? I tried with the multimeter and I was getting 4.79V on signal wire
and it was going down to 2.2 -2.3V when turning the wheel (car on jack, on 5-th gear), is that normal ?
Shouldn't I be getting 0 and 5V?
I was using battery earth.

Any Ideas ? Thanks in advance :)

You started the car and engaged gear with the wheels attached and off the ground? - not a good idea, had a friend of mine smash up his gearbox doing that exact thing, also had a friend damage his gearbox by starting it up on axle stands and putting it in gear!! - i dont recommend doing this at all...

If anyone else can comment then please do, can doing the above cause issues on the stilo's??

Hi,
That sounds about right. The output of the sensor changes from 0V to 5V as each gap/tooth passes. At any speed the meter will read the average. 2.2-2.3 is about right as the tooth is shorter than the gap. To check properly you would neeed to use an oscilloscope. If it is an intermittent fault it may just be easier to change it, but it's worth taking it out and making sure there is no rust or metal sticking to it.

Robert thank you very much for your reply. I took off the plastic cover today and it looked dirty around the tooth and on the sprocket itself. I cleaned it thoroughly and also gave it a blast of electric cleaner (that's what I had laying around) and so far there is no light
I gave a good clean to the connector behind the engine and now hoping for the best :)

Also I saw that the Temperature Sensor was really oily (I don't know how to stop that oil leaking from the top of the engine) and gave that a good clean too since I saw somewhere that the Crank Position Sensor and Temperature Sensor share the same earth
Anyway so far so good ...
I'll keep posting if anything comes up ...
Thanks again

Hello dtimmins1985 and thank you for your reply.
No I didn't start the car, I just jacked it up (lift the right hand wheel from the grounf) put it on the 5-th gear and was rotating the wheel by hand, hence the timing belt moves and all the pulleys and sprocket turn.
I don't think that can smash the gearbox ? I have strong hands but I don't think I can smash a gearbox :)

An update:

The light was off until today. I had to overtake a car and was in doubts, I had it in the 3-rd gear, decided I should overtake, hit the pedal abruptly to the floor ...and TA DAA ... Engine fault light came on ...
When I got on the highway, I gave it a good rev up to max it could go ...like 5000 rpm (in neutral :) ) and the light went off ... I drove the rest of the trip, around 25 km ..and the lights is still off.
I think that the sync between the crank sensor and crankshaft position sensor is getting lost, hence I had code 1320. One of the sensors is not working properly, and I'd bet the crankshaft position one...
Any ideas ?

Thanks

If you have this code p1320 (crank but no start),
99% it is the camshaft sensor gone bad. I changed mine, and now it's perfect.
