HI,

You may remember me, going on about my 1.4 12v that I bought as a stolen recovered and then needed to put a new engine in.

Well I've had it all paint, de locked, smoothed the works.

Guest what - the timing belt just slipped 1 hour ago, 100 yards from the works car park.

Just got the RAC out and it looking like a piston or/and a couple of values have popped.

Looking more into it there's a oil leak in the bottom part of the engine, which has gone all over the belt to cause it to slip.

I have 2 option spend £40 per piston £8 per value, looking at £150 - £200 parts, and still have the leak, or go for another engine, this time do the job right, as we know what we are doing now (me and my older brother).

Since then we have rebuilt his Integrale from the bottom up, so we know more.

So I'm asking all you kind people I've helped in the past (just a couple), to show pity and help me find a cheap 1.4 12v engine, or what else can go straight in, without messing about.

Please help, I've built this car once, I'm going mad.....!!!!

what is a 1.2 16v single or multi

Hi all,

Just an update, I believe I can put a 1.2 16v engine in the car if its a single point injection.

The gear box should be the same, and the engine mounts. Its just the 1.4 12v is single point injection, so if the 1.2 16v is single it should go in with my ecu, and wiring loom.

Any informtion or help

1.6 16v

I've found out I'll need a gearbox, Engine, drivesaft, ECU, and wiring loom.

I've come up with a place that will supply all for £300.

The car is getting pick up from my work at 18:00 PM tonight where I'm meeting my brother and we're taking it from wythenshawe to his garage in Heysham.

Tonight we shall sleep, tomorrow we shall work.......

Can someone help me

I'm still thinking about putting the another 1.4 12v back in as this is an easier option. But I need a 1.4 12V engine. I've found 2, 1 at £450 + VAT and the other at £650 + VAT.

Can any one help, were can I find a cheaper one NE ideas

rebuild?

Nino, the trouble with 2nd-hand engines is you have no idea of their mileage or condition.

If you're pulling the engine anyway, you may be better off doing a full rebuild of you're old engine (new pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pump, valves, cam followers, and perhaps a rebore if needed).

This may work out more expensive, but if you do most of the work yourself and find a decent machine shop, it may work out very reasonably.

The bonus about this, is that you know exactly what's in your engine, and can have complete faith in it.

If it was me, I'd pull the engine, and remove the head and sump to get a better idea of what's involved. An engine you've built yourself is a greater comfort than an unkown engine pulled from a wreck, or a dodgy rebuild where corners have been cut.

Re: rebuild?

I'll thinking about that, but butting the enigne back will be a faster option, but If I'm unable to locate a cheap engine, I have the 1.6 option or the rebuild.

The only think puttung me off is its just a 1.4 12v. It seem to me a rebuild would be a waste of time on an engine of this size.

any comments

Thanks for all your advise :)

At the mo I driving a G 100 000 blue 5 door escourt £75.

Still looking at what to do, I can get all the stuff for a 1.6 for £300 or for £1000 all the stuff for a Fiat coupe 20v Turbo.

But would need a gearbox, Brake upgrade, from rear drums to disc ad possible traction control fitted and ABS.

The engione mount points on all modem medium to large size cars are in the same place, its just the mounting barckets which are in a different size/shape etc.

so if I get a new raditor and intercooler made it will fit.

But will cost -

Engine 2.0 20v turbo,
ECU,
Wiring loam,
Drive shaft,
Gear linkage,
£1000,

+ £200 to give it a good service and replace most parts, beofre installing it.

Gearbox - £200 - if I can find one.
Radiator - Possible form another car - £50, or to get one made £ 150 - £200
Intercooler - £73 - £150.

Total maximum - £1550.

Thats doing the labour myself.

Is it worth it, considering my brother just got a Fiat coupe 16v turbo on a P plate for £1500, needs a boonet painting and has no red key.
