I have a Fiat 500f. Timing is set correctly, points are adjusted correctly, and the ignition timing is set correctly, 8 mm before TDC. The carburetor is set to its base setting, the tank is full, the floating filter is removed, and it's getting fuel from the pressure side to the carburetor. I have new spark plugs and new jumper cables, as well as a new distributor cap and rotor, all correctly installed, and yet it won't start. The spark plugs are sparking; I tried to start it without the air filter. It seems to want to start but won't start on its own. The exhaust is getting a bit warm, so the fuel is igniting. Compression in both cylinders is around 7 bar, the valves are adjusted, and the ignition was installed later than I tried earlier. The spark plug seems a bit wet after starting. Ground to the chassis/engine is OK. It won't start with brake cleaner in the air filter, so it "appears" to be ignition-related. I tried it without the air filter on the carburetor. The carburetor is a Weber type 22, but I haven't opened it. I did clean the idle jets and the side, both are OK. I replaced the coil (it was 2.8 ohms), the other one is 3.4 ohms. I connected the 12V supply to the positive, and it stays around 12V during cranking, with no drop in voltage. (I just haven't replaced the plastic feedthrough yet, so the capacitor voltage to the points.)
Pushing the accelerator pedal a little seems to bring some life back. The choke doesn't help; starting at full throttle makes the engine feel like it's flooding. I replaced the points, replaced the coil, and replaced the capacitor. The ignition switch and distributor rotation are pulling spark at the points (interrupting the timing), so it seems OK to me. The engine runs smoothly and quickly when cranking, and the battery has been tested and holds the crank for a long time.

Silly as this may sound---have you got the plug-leads the correct way round? Try swapping them over (easier at the coil). It is surprising how many times this scenario raises it's head!
