Evening everyone.
Hopefully someone will be able to help me, I've just bought a 1995 2.0 petrol Ducato swift motor caravan.
it starts with no problem, but has just started cutting out when I come up to a junction etc. I then have to keep restarting, drives no problem and starts hot or cold no problem, but when I take my foot of the accelerator it just won't idle and cuts out, very annoying
vehicle has done 49000 miles, plugs seem to be ok, don't know about points/distributor assuming it has one?
Any ideas?
Cheers
Mike

I did have a van with the 2 litr petrol engine which I was forever tinkering with (mainly in an attempt to get more power than because it was faulty!)

The carb is downdraught so will have an idle jet which *may* have become blocked; however my experience is that dismantling and reassembling carbs hardly ever cures the *fault* and always produces unwanted side effects.

If your van has the inline fuel filter I think you could discount a blocked jet; as a 'get-you-home' measure you could try adjusting the idle mixture screw and/or the idle speed screw; however as it has previously been running ok my hunch would be that one of the myriad lengths of small bore rubber tubing associated with that carb has split or cracked and is letting in unwanted air thus weakening the mixture at idle.

Hi crossingkeeper, thanks for your reply, I thought I was talking to myself:D I'll have a look at that hopefully this week and do some investigation, it's only just started to happen, and doesn't do it all the time.
cheers

Well so far 79 people have read this, but only 1 person has come up with some ideas

Well as the one person who replied, I'm guessing that not many folks have owned a 2L petrol so won't be able to advise (no clue in your original title as to the model!)

the figure of 79+ views is probably down to 20 folks who have each revisited 4 times whenever there is a new post to find out what the solution is (so will now jump to 100:D)

I didn't put in the title, but did put details in the actual post of make and model etc., haven't had time to go and have a look yet, but funnily enough driving on Monday didn't cut out at all, only seems to do it when it's a really hot day
