Hello

A warning beep and message came up when we were on the motorway and it said to contact a garage. Not sure if it really is serious or whether it's the type of message to ignore! Anyone know?

I get spurious messages occasionally on start-up.
I wouldn't worry too much unless you feel it's not running 'right', or if you start getting the message regularly.
Whenever I stall mine (I'm still not fully used to the excessively long clutch travel:p), I get a 'Faulty Alternator' message.
Italian electrics remember

As you're only in Essex, if you're concerned why not take it to DA Motors in Wickford, they're not far from you and will check it thoroughly - it's probably nothing, but better safe than sorry.

Tell Dave/John I sent you!

I got the 'Eng Ctrl Fault' message twice yesterday
Both times were when I'd floored the throttle to overtake, at around 35-40mph.

Nothing since then...

I got an ABS faulty message the other morning, but it was -5 degrees C and hasn't reappeared, so must have been a sensor.

This is common when starting the car after a while (12+ hours in freezing temp). If this starts to get happen at every start up then replace the battery. Search for ABS EBD fault on this forum for further info.

To answer the first post, If the computer encounters some problem, the Engine Control message appear. They go away after you have restarted the engine few times. I would get the code from the Fiat dealer or any other shop.

My story of the "random" Engine Control message.
I was driving on the motorway and after 40 minutes of continues driving the massage turned on, I noticed the engine heat was only sitting at one bar. After few engine restarts the message went a way, this message didn't came up when driving downtown.

My problem was the thermostat was broken. Changed it and the message never re-appeared.

Bottom line: Get the code from the ECU while it's there and see what you can to prevent it from happen again !

Hi Chris/JTD 105!

Thanks for the info ref the garage in Wickford - I am also a member of your FB group, but cannot seem to reply for some reason. It just doesn't let me! Have also found a local mobile mechanic who has Fiat experience (he also does valeting!) and he is coming tomorrow afternoon to have a look as the car went funny tonight. Wickford is not that near to where I am, and I wouldn't have been able to drive to them.

Cool! Whizz me over the details and I'll have a chat. Main thing is let us know how the work went, would you recommend him again etc - It's hard to find a good honest mechanic!
