i need the location of what i think is the INDIVIDUAL engine NUMBER
for example
my uno turbo has the engine CODE 146A2.000
and engine NUMBER 704***05
i need to know where i can find this individual engine number on the actual block on a 999cc Uno engine.

any help appreciated.(y)

I think they get stampped on the left hand side of all engines. If the engine is grubby or has been painted it might be difficult to find.

Why do you ask? has it had a transplant?

ok cheers,

well since the racer has been a racer for a good 10 years, it was sorned and the paperwork to confirm its reg disposed of long ago.

Fortunately it appears that *cough* it seems to have the exact same regestration as the uno turbo i crashed, stripped, and scrapped a few months back *cough*

Isnt that funny!;)

so now i just need to tell the DVLA that the black uno turbo has been sprayed yellow, and fitted with a different engine, to do this i need to put the engine number on the V5 (y)

Don't forget that you have the chassis number on plates rivetted to the front slam panel, and most impotantly the numbers are stamped on the drivers side inner wing adjacent to the suspension strut. If you get caught running a car with number plates that don't match the chassis number you could be in rather a lot of trouble because that will be seen as 'ringing'

Of course, chassis plates can be unrivetted and swapped over and the chassis number on the inner wing could conveniently be plated over as they often rust there. Not that I would ever condone such action ;)

it seems the number on the inner wing and the slam pannel are exactly the same too!?

WHAT A COINCIDENCE :D

yeah its alright, ill be careful.

to be honest, if i didnt do it id be buggered, as it would be classed as a kit car, and would need Q plates. Im 18 years old.....companies dont like insuring me as it is, let alone if i tell them i have a kit car!

If you wnat to declare the black UT as Yello with a new engine, make sure the V5 wasn't sent off to the DVLa saying it has been scrapped. I think its effectivley a Cat B right off when that happens

i have the V5 right next to me ;)

Hmm. you said you got the car off your old man? has he had it since he it was a racer? I think you'd be safer getting it registered as it was originally.

got it running yet?

yeah it was a racer before my dad got it - it came with no documents. yeah i agree, it would be better to have it on original reg, but its impossible with no documents/history, and my plan atm isnt really likely to go wrong imo.

i havent, but i have found the cause of the problem - it was the trigger for the optical ignition - a snip at £75!

luckily there are a lot of smart kids at my school and one of my mates says that he will fix the current one with £2.50 of electrical bits :p

i will update the project thread asap.

(hopefully getting a compressor and spray gun in the coming weeks (y))

hows the panda going craig?

ha, theirs always someone who can do stuff alot cheaper.

panda running good, whn you get it running we'll hve to meet up

haha too true, just hope he can - got it off today and its a sealed unit
hopefully we can take it apart and not destroy it.

yeah for sure!
i have easter holiday at the end of this week, so im hopfully booking the car in for thursday 16th april for an mot. have to sort insurance out pronto though - my mum is still working against me!

I've had a long think about this whole process of 're-shelling' - by which I mean when the old numbers are transferred to a different shell - and I honestly can't see anything morally wrong with this. If it was used to disguise a stolen car, THAT would be wrong. But otherwise, it's a car, it still has to pass its MOT and have road tax/license fee paid, and by transferring numbers you're not evading that, so what is the problem... it's not like it's a way to conceal dangerous faults. Quite the opposite if you're re-shelling an rusty or crash-damaged Turbo...

I know the numbers-transfer happens often in NZ as a way of keeping cars on the road viably, because - similar to the UK - once a car is left un-licensed, its registration becomes 'dead' and it has to be re-registered/full inspection the same as for a new car. That's just silly. The car itself hasn't changed, but would have to be scrapped.

It's just one of the strange dilemmas we face...

Hope you get through MOT, got all the V5 and reg sorted now?

Ha, obv didn't do enough for mothers day then.

cheers mate, bit off work to go until then
just put it in the postbox (y) (in an addressed envelope i mean...i didnt just put my V5 straight into the postbox LOLOL:D:D)

nah my mum is just well scared that im going to get myself killed - but i cant convince her im not a nutter anymore unless she lets me drive!

alex i have exatly the same view as you - why should i have to change to q plates when its just a 'normal' uno?!
