Engine Change help!

Hey all,

Does anybody know if a 2.0 litre bravo engine fits into a 1.2 bravo?

It will. But you will also need to change gearbox, upgrade brakes etc etc. The work involved would cost a fair bit. Would be cheaper just to buy the HGT

as Wimmy said it is possible, but its a hell of alot of work to do. you will be best of with a rear ended hgt rather than just buying bits, and you can never be 100% certain how the engine is from a crashed car.

you will need the engine, box, wireing loom, ecu, shocks, hubs, breaks, poss fuel pump, rad and pipeing, plus you will be best to do a cambelt change and service the engine before it goes in, and you still wont know if its spot on or not

plus the 5 pot engine isnt the easiest to do a swap with, even into another 5 pot vehicle

you can but decent hgts now from a grand, it will cost you more than that to do the swap with the new bits n pieces and labour easily

Ok thanks guys,

The thing is though im modding my Bravo now and im doing the full works on it and in a year or two i dont want to let all that work go so i thaught instead of buying another car for a bigger engine why not just put the bigger engine in mine.

providing i have all the parts neccesary from the HGT and its all in good working order will the 2.0 litre fit straight into my Bravo?

May be easier to swap your modified parts over to a HGT tho.

When I got the HGT I swapped the full boot, wheels, ICE, front windows, light masks etc etc

As Wim says, its far easier to swap the parts from your 1.2 to an HGT than to faf about swapping engines.

you'd have to buy a running HGT to get the parts needed anyway and you'd end up swapping mostly everything except the bodyshell and interior.

the price it would cost you to buy all the hgt parts will be almost as much as buying a hgt!


you would need engine gearbox driveshafts wishbones antiroll bar, both wiring looms, fuel pump and swirl pot gear linkages brake system abs pump pipe and wiring loom plus sensors rear brake setup to get the abs to work all the hgt engine mounts hgt steering rack trackrod ends front calipers radiator all pipework hgt wings and front bumper hgt springs and shocks, hgt top mounts


the list goes on and on and on. i have done lots of engine swops and lots of body work and every time if i had the choice between the two i would pick body work!

buy a hgt be happy and dont worry about the body work

do the swop have months of pain a car that looks pretty but dont go.
