My 97 cinq sportings now on its 4th Gearbox mount!!

It had been replaced by the previous owner (got receipt). And when I bought the car about A YEAR AGO, it needed replacing again. So counting the original item, and the one I fitted last weekend. Its now on its Fourth!

Its Eating them!

The last one, was totally seperated and the engine was starting to take the exaust with it.

Could there be any reason, other than being rough with the clutch (which I dont think I am ) for this happening? Someone suggested fitting a brace for the engine, like their old racing mini?

Spec: Standard 1108 engine, lower springs, strut brace & Induction
I also changed the clutch 2 months ago.

One more thing:
Just after I got the car, I changed the other two mounts also, because I knew the car had been driven for a bit with a broken Gearbox mount....

Thanks, any suggestions welcome

Im collecting broken mounts as trophys at the moment...

It might have been me that suggested the mini steady....

I saw a pic of a ford with an engine steady coming off the n/s strut.

So ill probs weld abit onto the strut brace base, and then go somewhere near the coil pack area

Interesting - the possibilty of it being upside down. I have always copied the one I first replaced. I think I remember the coloured plastic packing piece was on the top. Shiny plate bit on the bottom.

Is this wrong! Oh poop

Thanks fingers

It was upside down! Oops

I might (I hope) have just copied the one I replaced, that would explain why it / they didnt last very long. Nice and quiet on the biting point in reverse now.

Just fitted a new alternator today also, wonder what Il be doing next weekend?...
