Panda (Classic) Engelbert the H reg Dark Green Sisley Progress Log

Introduction

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-cla...ng-h-reg-sisley-needs-home-5.html#post3514984

So today I took delivery of the above mentioned Sisley, who I have decided to name Engelbert after the last 3 letters of his numberplate (I always name my cars in this way). All is explained as to how he came to be in my possession from the above thread so I wont touch on that too much here but will say the seller is a very kind lady. She was understanding about the transport frustrations I had and was very honest about the condition of the car.

This first post is going to be very pic heavy by the way!! I got it and did a quick assessment (I will do a more in depth assessment tomorrow) but I am extremely pleased with the condition generally, it obviously will need work but I am prepared for this (hence the project log). It has every sisley extra apart from the grille badge and is missing two centrecaps and the horn push (I am not counting the compass in this), though I wasnt expecting there to be as much of the sisley trim etc as there is! I am in the process of compiling a list of required items too.

Required Items/work required

Side repeater indicator
Front part of Airbox assembly (or new clips)
two sisley centrecaps
Front grille sisley badge
Instrument surround (See photo)
possibly bonnet vent (there is a small crack in this but I actually dont think it matters too much)
Possibly new bonnet or just work to the bonnet
Rubber headlamp rear cover
Rubber boot seal
Refurbish wheels and new tyres
Sisley Horn Push
New Battery
Aerial
Wiring repairs (wiring next to battery at least)
Repair front seat fabric
Under bonnet screwdriver
wirebrushing and undersealing, possible welding at points
Front bullbars
rear bullbars Palio I havent forgotten about this, but will wait till funds are more available if thats cool?
Obviously a stripdown and recommissioning generally of the engine is required as it hasnt run in 4-5 years

The general condition is pretty good indeed, though some rust curing and prevention will obviously have to be done. But I gave it a quick clean and it has come up very nicely, I am struggling for things to say about it as I have so much swimming in my head at the moment with it, im overwhelmed, need to sleep to digest it all! I will let the pictures and videos do the talking (still need to upload videos)
do you have thin hands? stick your hand down in the air box and see if the fan spins.. it may just be locked up a bit and require a bit of a push to make it work... just make sure you do it when the fan is turned off.. they can nip your fingers good.

ive never really known of a fan motor to pack up before. its a little bit odd.

you are 100% sure that you have gone through all the connectors? you had the dash front off right? did you plug the switch in.. its a mistake i have done before >_<

thanks for the shout too

I checked all connections but havent tried moving the fan yet. I actually buggered up building the box from two I had so I have another one coming anyways, I am hoping this new one works! Though if it doesn't then it has to be down to either the connector block in the engine bay or the switch on the dash.

you've not tried sticking power strait into the plug then?

not sure on the wire colours.. but as i remember them they were brown, red and black.

the black is ground, then red and brown are both lives. brown is full speed (switch position 2) and red is low speed (switch position 1)

i remember now as i have one of those diesel heaters (running on waste oil.. naturally) hooked up to my spare panda heater box which heats up our conservatory on a thermostat.
makes for a nice 5kw worth of free heat.

No haven't tried that, the annoying thing is I can't remember ever using the original heater box so no clue if it worked or not

yeah.. you'll have to take the front off the dash to replace all of that. its just all the dash screws and then the 4 around the levers.

the heater box is just 2x 10mm bolts under where the wiper motor lives.

nice and easy. while you are under there, you can replace the speedo cable too. you dont even have to take the clocks out for that.

Yeah nice and easy :)

The heater box that came in the car was cracked and broken on the top, so I got one from a breaking panda. Unfortunetly that one didn't come with the levers, just the severed cables! So I had to dismantle it to replace the cables with the one that came with the car, but I got it wrong somehow and now the levers won't move, and of course the fan doesn't work, so Andy is sending me one complete with the levers in one piece so I can just slot it in and all being well it will work! If not then it must be a connection/switch problem.

I wish I had tried the heaters in the first place and just put up with how terrible it looked, oh well, lesson learned!

Decided to go for a gold theme under the car :ROFLMAO: sounds mental but i think it looks great!

Ok so today I put a BNOS rear wiper arm, its the design they were using on the last mk2 pandas, and has a little retaining clip to hold on to the wiper spline better, genius! I also put in a second hand wiper motor to it, and it is now working properly :) I also painted the welding that has been done to the drivers sill, just Gold hammerite to protect it. And lastly I put the new heater box in, and it is now working, I am so pleased, its a huge step forward :) Didn't get any photos of the new heater box unfortunately as it started raining.
