Hello,

I'm Gus we live in the Netherlands and we own a Fiat Multipla 100 16v from march 2003. We are very happy Multipla owners but this 2nd Multiple we own is giving us some (financial) nightmares.

For a long time the "Eng Ctrl Faulty" message is appearing in the display now and then. It stays on for a week or so and then goes off again for a few days. We've been to the Fiat dealer, but they were not able to find the problem. They connected our Multipla to the check-up system, we pay 45 euro's and get the message they can't trace the problem.

Now we have brought our Multipla to our local (all brands) garage and they hooked our Multipla to their check-up system. The replaced a certain part (I don't know the technical English word for it) but it has something to do with the changing of the ingnition time. For 3 weeks we drove error free but since 4 weeks or so it's back again. They checked the engine agian and now they will change the sensor close to the catalysator. Is seems they can't find the problem either and start to change all parts in the motor management system.

Before we start to pay a fortune (we've already spend several hundreds of euro's to solve this problem) is there somebody who recognizes this problem? I've found on a Dutch forum a simular problem, and the catalysator was replaced (warranty) to fix this problem, but that's rather costly.....

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Gusman ;)

Hi I have similar problem - the yellow warning light is permanently on and on engine start the message "Eng Ctrl Faulty" together with the 2 beep warning sound appears.
For my problem the reason is the fact that my catalysator is removed - this fact leads to wrong data coming from the lambda sensor (hope it is correct in English) - most probably this is the one that they are goinng to replace now.

For me it is waste of money to change parts if you are not sure if there is the problem, because it may be the sensor not working, or the catalyzator not working.

I am driving the car in that condition and was assured that the only problem I will have is to get bored with the warnings - nothing else.
It is your choice to ignore it or to change parts until you fix the problem.

Hope this helps ;)

If the lamnda sensor is before the cat then the readings will be unnafected by it being removed but a blocked cat can cause problems.
