Hi, 2005 x244 2.8jtd Motor home 52,000 miles owned from new

This year's mot had a advisory blue smoke under acceleration

If you let it idle for couple of minutes then rev it will blow some blue smoke?

Only do low miles a year never had to top up oil between annual services?

Surely this can't be piston ring wear already?

Any ideas about a fix before next April?

Have same x244, 31k, when stood for 3 months-ish, I get blue smoke after driving off on first start. even if engine idles for maybe 10 mins before moving. Always cleared within 5 mins driving. Suspect oil leakage past valve guides. Give it a reet good run before MOT, or see if it does this every time out?

Sounds like valve stem seals did you put 5w40 oil in it? quick fix for the test might be 15w40 high mileage oil with seal conditioners (15w40 is approved by iveco for same engine in temperate climates) not good for winter though so change it back to a 10w40 high mileage for winter

Getting it hot (very hard with the 2.8) and cetane improver like ecodiesel in the fuel doesn't hurt for the test

Thanks, never heard of high miles oil with seal conditioner, where do you buy that?

nearly all motor accessories shops will stock oil seal conditioner or reconditioner it will treat ALL the oil seals in your engine preventing them from becoming stiff and brittle normally one tin will do the job to replenish all the seals including valve seals just pour it in and forget. I have been using it for years never had a problem with either blue smoke or oil leaks. I just put a tin in every oil change normally once a year. i run the 2.5tdi version of your engine done 107000mls no problem.

yep!!! just pour it in where you fill your engine oil..... NOT in the fuel tank. it will normally take 400--500 miles for it to take effect best to go for long runs so engine running high temperature for longer thus giving the stop leak a chance to fully get into oil seals and do its work.
