Hello everyone

I've a 1998 Marea Weekend. A couple of weeks ago the kilometer display started flashing as if it thought it was the Matrix. Few days later it turned off! Came back on a couple of times but only half legible and most of the time it is off.

Any ideas for trouble shooting this?

Thanks

<<EDIT>> I suppose "Speedo" isnt the right word... it's the Mileage / Kilometer display that is kaput.

Sounds like it is just the backlight bulb gone... There is a tiny bulb that lights up the Mileage digital display.... The bulb itself costs about 50pence but you have to take the dash apart to get to it as it is located on the back of the instrument cluster. I seem to recal the steering column covers have to come off as well to allow the instrument panel to pull forward...

Took me about 2 hours the first time it happened to me... Had the car about 8 years and has gone twice....

Good luck

OK great. I will give that a shot this weekend. Did you use a guide to remove panel or did you just use your common sense? :D

Common sense.... I do not remember it being that bad... Just took my time and put the screws down in order...!!!

Lower the steering wheel to its lowest point if you are going to remove the instrument cluster. Then you should not have to remove the steering column plastic surround.

OK just done as suggested above and it was indeed a faulty bulb! Thanks. Now where can I obtain these bulbs? its 12V 1.8 something?

Now a new problem ; the airbag display lights up! Would disconnecting the negative battery cable for an hour or so, clear it up? Any other ideas?

Thanks

Disconnecting wont fix your airbag light but if you have a laptop you can use http://fiatecuscan.net/
