Im hoping the leccy Jedi out there can help me. The washer for the windscreen is none functional. The fuse is fine, the motor itself works when connected to the battery. I dont know what else to try. My rudimentary electrical knowledge is failing me. I can clean earth points, understand the basics ish but the Lancias electrics might as well be concordes

sounds like wire rot.. i think you need to cut the wire back to good clean copper, re-attach new and see how that goes..
the cinqs get it really bad. you have to cut the old plug off keep cutting the black oxidised wire back and attach new when you get to good wire then just put new crimp connectors on. dont forget the copper grease. ;)

I had the same problem on the Sisley but after removing and cleaning all connections and both hedgehog earthpoints they are working fine. So something to try.

Dragonman is a lot more knowledgeable than me on this one though so I would go with his advice :)

The plugs are pretty grotty despite my attempt to clean them up. So they could well be the problem. I take it you reckon its unlikely theres a break inside the wiring?

The earth points have been cleaned to mirror perfection but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Its getting quite tiresome, the horn was working fine 2 days ago. But now not a peep out of it. The indicators were just about working okay but a 2day layoff means they have gone barmy as well. Then it suddenly wouldn't start. I can't help but feel the electrical technology is abit rubbish.

Oooh, are they doing the whole back end flashing thing? Mine did that, I miss that. Can't remember how I solved it though, was nearly 20 years ago:(

Yeah thats it. Most of the lights flashing at the back causing a big voltage drop across the actual indicators. Cleaning the hedgehogs helped abit. That was then, they have reverted to type and gone mad again :(

Don't think the rear light clusters earth out via the hedgehogs anyway, they earth via a strap to the bodywork behind the clusters themselves near the rear hatch I think (could be wrong, it's been a while). Probably find some corrosion at the earth point. (actually knowing your luck you'll probably find it trying to earth out via a large area of brown lace & fresh air:()

Or... it's the curse of those rims returning:devil:
Still, have you seen this? Might cheer you up.

Ahh just like the old ford style "everything blinks with the indicators syndrome"
Poor earthing means it's trying to earth out anywhere hence tracking back through other bulbs.
We used to fix this by cleaning the earths or even doubling them up with fresh, if you just can't get them clean dipping the ends in vinegar and leaving to soak makes them like new metal.
Or copper self cleaning flux works also, built to remove oxidation.

i have had it (on Talon) where the wires had corroded so bad, that all that was left behind was just the insulation. all the copper inside has just disparaged... its worth looking into...

good idea,

you should be able to check a lot of this with a multimeter- checking one end of cable is still passing a connection to the other,

you can CAREFULLY use a knife (@45 degrees) to cut into the outer sheathing (a few inches from the terminals"ends"), and put the meter probe onto the knife blade - so you can check the connection INSIDE the insulation
