Electical problem? Please help

Hi,

I have a problem with my Bravo HGT. The electrics seem to have a mind of their own. There are various symptoms: When driving the car seems to die even the CD player goes off, and the ABS light comes on.

Sometimes the Remote central locking disarms the alarm but doesn't unlock the car. Also today when I was in the car , with just the ignition on but the car not started, the electric windows would not open but the ABS light came on each time I pushed the window button.

Each time I turned the ignition on, the noise you usually hear, fuel pump it think, sounded very odd.

Then when I tried to start the car it wouldn't start at first, but then all of a sudden it started perfectly, and everything worked. I tried to start it again and it was fine.

I am not sure if there is an intermittant electric problem or if something is wrong with the battery or alternator. My biggest worry is why the car cuts out when it's being driven.

From similiar posts in the past i would suggest bad earth or even as simple as loose/corroded battery connection , i'm sure someone with more info will post soon .

Radio

Hi,

Now when I brake or use the indicators or turn on the lights the radio goes off, but then staight back on.

Just to double check what is the yellow and black cable behind the radio, the previous owner has joined this to the rad cable.

What is the orange cable for?

I've not remove the yellow and black cable from being joined to the red cable. I have a JVC head unit so I guess I don't need the yellow and black cable as its for lighting up a standard unit, I think?

I still have this problem, of when a light, brake, indicator or main lights come on the CD player initially goes off.

Should have said now removed not not removed yellow and black cable from red cable

most likely cause is the either your battery negative connection is bad or where the battery negative connects to the chassis is corroded or snapped. hope that helps

if its not that all i can suggest is checking any other major earth points you can find.
