I had the loss of power, the engine going into a "get you home mode". I followed the suggestions in the EGR valve thread but it did not rectify the fault.
It was on the engine at start up and the yellow triangle was lit. I then thought was it the glow plugs as the mornings had gone cold and at 55000mls it is shown in the service schedule to check the glow plugs. They all had the same resistance reading so they were all working but I didn't know what the reading should be so I replaced them. I still had the fault. I the looked at the glow plug relay and found that the main battery lead was not very tight and there had been heat there as the thread and the plastic were damaged. I cleaned the parts and refitted the relay and the fault had gone. It took 5 engine starts to make the warning light to go out. Now at the start of this winter I got the same fault again. Removed the glow plug relay and found that the main battery terminal was not 100% tight. The last three threads had been damaged and I hadn't noticed the first time. I fitted a washer to cover the threads, tightened the nut, refitted the relay and Bingo. SO don't get too technical, think what it could be before delving in.
