General ECU remapping

Hi,

I was told the red diesel didn't have any additives in it. The reason it is not as clean for us is that it is stored in large tanks on the marina pontoons and the fuel is often left there for months over winter so it is not always the best quality by the time we get it.

People do try to use it here, but Customs are often seen in the area in mobile testing vehicles dipping tanks. They have had a lot of experience with people trying to fool them. They have false tanks, false filler pipes filled with normal diesel etc.

My Ulysse is petrol so no temptation for me !!!!!!.

Prior commiments meant I could not meet with Nigel last night. I will need to arrange another day. Nigel was only really going to read my current map and compare it with John K's and if similar he was going to demo one of the re-maps. I will have to wait until end of May before I get the map done. Will look forward to updates from you and John K as they get posted and will as, per your previous post recommends, have a demo of the mad map.

I only really get to test the car out fully at weekends, unless I manage to nab it the evenings to pop to gym or corner shop for alcohol!!!

Just got my car back after the 'fun' with the screwed diesel injectors, and whatever the garage did to the car, it seems to be running smoother now... In fact it's running smoother now than it did when I first got the car from new back in September, so I'm wondering if there was an intrinsic fault with the original engine......

Running smoother - excellent news. Better news about the map; I am surprised no one took it for a test drive though!!! That would have been fun for them

Well, since I had the car back, it's been parked up for a week (while I was away in the US on business), but in the two weeks I've been back I've done about 1500 miles in a number of different conditions.

Previously, as I used to drive as heavily as the 'original' engine would allow, I was getting an average 28.7mpg for driving that is a mix of foot down motorway driving (just to keep it to 90mph with the rest of the M40 flow), lots of queues (stop/start), and city centre driving.

Since getting the remap, for the same driving I'm seeing 30.4mpg average. I suspect the bulk of this difference is because to keep up with the M40 traffic I now don't need to keep the accelerator floored.

The car is still running well (better since the diesel injectors and associated work was completed - I'm wondering if these had been a problem for some time).

All in all, I feel this was a very worthwhile exercise, and has turned the 2.0JTD into something that is a pleasure to drive all round (rather than it being a nice car but with an under-powered engine).

If you thought your car was improved..... we did a Punto JTD in France on Saturday and he has just let me know that he has had it recorded at 245km/h.... THAT is scary!

Hi, will the re-map not invalidate your manufauturers warranty on the ecu and associated parts, ie, the engine> What happens if you knock the bottom end out due to the increased hp? can the find out? or do you just plead ignorance if it comes up?
