In my house!
has anyone else tried one of these on their car?

i got mpi so got good servo pipe i tapped into but it doesnt seem to be doing alot!!

any help from anyone?

My Friend has an ecotek fitted to his escort (1.6 16v mrk6), and as you say it dont seem to make much difference to anything except make a squeeky noise when the engine de-exalerates.

i think i realised my problem, its a case of you gotta TUNE the damn thing, i did it wrong, i got it sussed now and it seems to pick up a lot quicker and lot torquier!! my v8 idle is now also more or less gone :)

just gotta see if i get better mpg!

Hi,
Don't know if I got this wrong but, I'm guessing the ecotec valve works by letting in a small amount of air in to the engine to alter the air/fuel mixture, but the air fuel mixture on a cinq is calculated using air pressure(map), so as far as I can tell this widget will only work on a car with an air flow meter as this measures the quantity of air passing through it and the ecotec lets the air in, by-passing the air flow meter.........or am I thinking a bit too hard on this subject...

Thanks

Nope, correct thinking.

you've all given me exactly the response i thought you would!!!! even pete went onto ecotek forum and started saying their valves were useless!

1. Agreed, the valves dont work on a spi, but i have an mpi where the servo pipe enters the manifold directly.

2. No placebo affect, i have noticed a difference, my idle is now smooth as silk! Picks up through gear changes better cus b4 it wud hesitate after a change b4 the power came on.

3. As far as i can find out from anyone who (hasnt!) answered my post and i asked someone else, the mpi doesnt have a map sensor anywhere i can see and one isnt listed on the eper, weird!!

Overall, at minute im happy and yet to see fuel savings but like i say, it has made a big difference and is noticable, even my friend has noticed it!!

i bought mine off ghostwkd for 25 squid secondhandy but think they bout 30 new! after drive today to work noticed wee bit of pick up between gears but cant comment on fuel savings cus sender keeps playing up! stalled it this morning and went from full to 3/4 of tank cus sender is dodgy :( might strip it down and have a look!

They require bit of tuning and playing with but not bad! They only really work once engine warmed up a bit too i found out this morning, but once warm, idle is smooth as silky silk :)

well if yours does it, prob another fiat cock up!! its done it twice to me, i stall it, and then the gauge reads lower than it shud do!!!!!! i either remove sender connector and plug back in or leave it and after few journeys it suddenly starts reading right again!!

Weird stress!!!!

You found any other probs with ur sei sport paul?

Dodgy idling, flat spots, crap*y fuel sender etc? my front bearings now going!! Get a horrrrible whine when i slow down.

Question - If i ignore this for a while, whats the worst that cud happen, only until i can fit my new bearings!! Cud it affect fuel consumption??

They claim that this item introduces incresed turbulence to the inducted air - I don't get the impression that it is just about changing the fuel/air ratio.

Or am I wrong?

I had one on my 899cc. It was crap, the idea isnt a bad one in theory , although my money's on that any flow in a cylinder head would be reasonably turbulent (at steady state) due to the small port diameters and high flow velocities...

As for the time-dependant flow that the engine presents..Im stumped. But no, theyre annoying and fairly pointless IMO
