i've bought loads of cars off ebay for myself and others but i have very rarely won the auction.
usually i wait until it ends and they dont get what they want. then i'll go round and have a look because you're already at an advantage knowing they've had no interest. negotiating the price is much easier.
if its a car you really want then you need to go and look at it and complete the sale as soon as you possibly can because regardless of what ebay policy says cash is king. if you get the cash to the seller first you get the car (even if someone else has already won it, if you're willing to pay a little bit more).

when i was selling my old xr2i,i had sold it to the highest bidder who phoned me afterwards to tell me he'll come for it 2 days later (at weekend),a local guy then rang me as he missed the auction offered me an extra £100 so i took it and sold it him and car was gona same day..
Later on i had to explain to the guy it had gone....who was goin ape on the end of the phone,and tried to report me to ebay .
cant remember what they said as it was a while ago but i can remember them getting in touch with me and giving me a warning

a warning for £100 is a bit of a bargain really. you made the right choice.
