hello there, I came across this site when looking for advice about my stilo not starting today, and read that they don't like the cold! I kinda buried my head in the sand the last 2 times it struggled to start and today it just went 'errrr no' and said high coolant level.... soo, gonna look at all the fluid levels tomorrow, but don't want to have to fork out for a garage guy to come and play if its just something simple! think it might be flat....

A this time of year when its cold and damp, all cars will find it harder to start, but if the battery is in anyway under health it will get shown up very quickly, this is especially the case if you do lots of short journeys using heaters on full, heated rear screen, stereo, lights etc as the battery really doesn't get a chance to fully charge its self as the alternator is working hard to run everything as well.

I can't answer about the hi-coolant level indicator as I do not have a Stilo, but check teh fluid levels, & I would recomend that you try and get a jump start off a friend/neighbour and then go to your local halfords or car parts place as they will do a battery health check and will fit new one if needed for free.

HTH, and welcome,

Aaron.

wow, 2 responses and a local fella- I am in milton keynes too! general opinion seems to be that I have a flat battery, and the stilo came with 3 years aa so i can get them out to have a look, then will have to go on a good long drive to get it back up to perky. I asked the fiat guy that sold it to me in my hometown, and he said i could get the aa to take it to him if I didn't want to use the new m.k fiat garage, bless him! thanks for your help, and I think I might hang about to learn from you knowledgeable types. :worship: :worship:

You'll be hanging around along time if you wait for one of them to turn up;)

Oh i like that one just because you got your youthfull looks doesnt mean you got the rest ;) to go with them:p

so newbie firstly is your engine turning over slowly or quickly and if its turning over ok is it fireing (y) or (n) cos a flat battery can cause multiple problems i would say first get your battery checked and we the members can then give you more advise if your battery is ok :) oh and a big big welcome to you

oh dear, what have I interrupted?! the car has 3 years aa assurance thats not up yet so I am going to get them to come tomorrow when someone else can keep the toddler entertained for me (imagine that advert with the car guy with rocket boots and my son causing the trouble) -it seems that I haven't used it enough and am guilty of short trips to the shops on full heat, defrost, lights and radio..... just hope its simple to fix and a run to my hometown for a cuppa is enough to charge it back up...
