Hi
I was driving my 2007 Ducato just now and it became difficult to engage some gears then 3rd wouldn't engage at all. I have tried with the engine off etc but the shifter won't go into 3rd, is this likely the gearbox gone or is there a fix ?

Pivot on gearbox can seize, this in turn can damage the cable, cable can get caught on the heater hose also, there is also a cable adjustment at the lever end. If you kept driving while it was crunching the chances it may be damaged. But rule out the pivot and cable snagging first.

Hi
Is the pivot the bit were the cables attach to the gearbox and if it had seized would I still be able to get the other gears (although they stick sometimes) ?
Also is it possible to free it off or would the box still need to come out for repair ?

If its stiff it may still move but the friction will be working against the lever and cable and may stop the full travel. You can remove it polish it, lubricate it and reasseble with the box in place.

Get someone to move the gearlever and check if its snagging on anything mobile phone video and a torch is handy for areas that are hard to see.

hi all I was talking to a chap who had to have a new gearbox because of water ingress from the drain pipe coming from the heater intake dripping on the gearbox so I have cut the existing pipe & extended it past the gearbox as in photo plus sprayed copper grease on the joints P.S if anyone wants to know what the red & blue wires are in the photo they are from the EGR cheater
