Hi, I have just replaced the clutch on my 1988 Ducato grampavan on completion I try it and seemed OK next day after a few miles the clutch started to drag to the point of been unable to select gears while engine is running, has anybody encountered this problem or do I have to strip the hole assembly down again? a job I wish to avoid

Is your clutch cable or hydraulically operated?

If it's cable, then check the adjustment on the clutch fork end. It's possible that the clutch has bed-in slightly and that you need to re-adjust the cable.

If it's hydraulically operated, then see if bleeding the slave cylinder out improves the situation. Also check for evidence that the cylinder has been leaking.

Why did you replace the clutch in the first place?

Re: ducato clutch not disengaging/no gear selection possible

Hi thanks for the info. the reason for the clutch change is that it was
worn-out, Burnt -out, defunct no-more, as she is now 17 years young (y)

I did re-adjust the cable (I tensioned a bit more ) to no avail.

Hi, sorry to here of your clutch issues, I think your symptoms mirror mine
I have a 1990 Hymer Camp 64 its based on the fiat 2.5D soffin engine non turbo. All was well with my old gal last time she was parked up. Now when I start her I cant engage/dis engage the clutch to select any gears. If I select a gear before starting the engine and depress the clutch she just acts as if the clutch is still engaged jolting forward or backwards as selected. Just wondering what kind of a job it is to tackle and where you sourced clutch replacement, any help or ideas gratefully recieved

Hi All
Carterman
Sounds like your clutch is just seized up let the engine warm up fully then depresses the clutch and let it tick over with the clutch down for a few minutes this usually works.
If not jack up the drive wheels put it in third start it up and let it run with the clutch down for a few minutes the vibration usually frees it off.
Good Luck

I agree with cris1117, the clutch plates develop surface rust and seize if the van has been left lying up for long periods especially in our damp climate. I was recommended to keep the clutch depressed with a piece of 2" x 1" cut to length and placed between the base of the seat and the clutch pedal, this keeps the clutch plates separate and prevents them bonding.
