Hello everyone.
I have added about 200ml of Dot4 fluid to the wrong reservoir the (Control system, the rectangular reservoir! ) then started the engine for a couple of minutes but shuts it off immediately when realizing what happened, I did not drive the van, vacuumed all the content of the rectangular reservoir and ordered a litre Tutela CS Speed. I’m planning to fill that reservoir, start the engine let it run for a few minutes and vacuum it again and repeat that a few time…I wander how much trouble I am in and weather what I’m planning to do would help cleaning the mess that I did? Any helping comments would be highly appreciated.
 
I'm gonna be honest here , i've haven't got a clue , what your talking about . So i looked it up , and we appear to be talking about hydraulic systems . In particular clutch , and i'm guess you've put it in the gearbox . You don't mention what van this is , or year , but i'm guessing it's pretty new , which is probably why i've never heard of it .

Honest answer , i don't know what the long term damage will be , but if i've assumed correctly i would say minimal . If you only ran the engine , not moved it . It's unlikely any oil has been drawn into the system , but personally , just to be sure , i would completely drain the system . Flush with new fluid , and then refill .
If however you have filled another system , the answer is pretty much the same , drain , flush , and refill .

This is about a comfurt Matic gear box fluids of a Fiat Ducato 2015 Motor Home. I wrongly assumed that the title (Ducato ATM) was clear enough. Anyway yesterday I drained, flushed and refilled four time and the fourth drained fluid (Totela CS Speed) was as clear as the fresh one, Now everything is running smoothly and evidence of any trouble, I'm very happy with that. This stupidity could've cost over 10000 AUD therefore I hope this won't happen to anyone else, and it does, then that's what should be done. Cheers Mate

Ah right , so you put an atm fluid in the vehicle in the first place , just not the recommended atm fluid yeah ?

Right now i'm with the program here . Okay if that's the case , then as you guys would say , no worries mate . This is quite common , and the only mistake you have made , is that you have wasted a lot of money .
Fiat recommends certain oils for their vehicles , normally because there is some kind of tie up with the company recommended . Petronas is a Malaise company , with connections to what was then Royal Dutch Shell , itself based in Amsterdam . Fiat along with several other european manufacturers probably used their oils for initial testing , and it has carried on from there . I know my Citroen should use Petronas too , but my Suzuki is mean't to use something else .
Now note that i said should , neither do , and never have since i've owned them , neither does my Fiat now .
Now i should state , two of these vehicles are in excess of 20 years old , in fact the Citroen is almost 30 , with the youngest , the Suzuki coming on 18 . All use Castrol , and have done so for years . Like wise the gearboxes use comma , and the cooling system uses a common anti freeze . Except here my Citroen and Suzuki use blue , where the Fiat uses red .
Now because of this tie up , you will find the recommended oil , or what ever to be more expensive . If we look at the oil for instance , 5 litre of 10/40 Petronas retails around the 35.95 gbp mark , in many places more , where as 4lts of Castrol magnatec , a similar oil with exactly the same spec's , retails for around 30.59 . Now i will admit that's only 4 litres , so not a very good comparison , but it does show my meaning . I actually pay even less than that , somewhere around the mid twenties for the same specification oil . I trust Castrol , it has been around for years , and i've used it in boats , planes , cars , and now my motorhome . Castrol have never felt the need to muck around with the stuff , unlike others who are always releasing some new blend , often because they want to increase the price .
It's far more important you observe the specifications , often listed somewhere in the owners manual . The manufacturer is unimportant , usually it based on price , and as it's recommended , that price is usually higher .

However , the choice is yours , you pay the money . As for the gearbox , it's highly unlikely you caused it even a hic-cup . Actually it's more likely wondering more of a why ?
