Got a 54 plate punto active with dualogic box. The box is making a helluva rattle and grind. Short of running it into a brick wall, How hard is it to renew the input shaft bearing? Also, the rattle seems to be coming from the diff end of the box where the two shafts go into the box. The rattling gets louder and becomes more of a grinding rattle when the box goes from 2nd to 3rd and gets louder again through the remaining 4th and 5th.
I just paid £1750 for it three months ago, it had no gearbox noises, and the gearbox has just started this noise over the past three weeks. Stripping engines and rebuilding cars is no problem, just not sure of stripping the dualogic gearbox. Any help/advice, (even if it is to scrap the car), welcome and appreciated.
John.

John, the Dualogic box is essentially not dissimilar to a manual box, only hydraulically actuated. So fixing it shouldn't be much different to fixing the same problem on a manual box (y)

Cheers most easterly,
Unfortunately i have just returned home after having to tow the punto, using my 1961 Ford Popular 100e, back home. The mrs was out in the punto tonight and it gave a helluva grinding noise and decided it wasnt going anywhere anymore, right in the middle of a large and busy roundabout. I would say, from listening to it, the box is now fecked good and proper. I believe the dualogic box is very expensive, even second hand, so i think the punto is heading for the graveyard. Should have went for the speedgear auto instead. Expensive mistake.

But what's wrong with the box? Just transplant the inners from a manual box from a scrappy...

Not sure whats wrong with it at the moment. It will select 1st gear and drive, then change up to 2nd with a grind and then just constant crunching/grinding and doesnt drive.
Going to park the car and pull the box out at the end of the month and strip it down. Will need to put the 2001 punto back on the road meantime. Its a 2001 16valve speedgear automatic and i think it will be our daily driver now for a few months as the Mrs just doesnt want the dualogic back on the road. So it looks like sell the car as is, or try and rebuild the box and then sell it. The Mrs only has an auto licence so she needs an automatic car and wont drive the dualogic again, even with another box in it.
We just paid £1750 for it last month:mad:. There wasnt even a noise from the box when we bought it.
Anyone on here want it? 2004 54 plate, just passed its mot, great wee 8 valve engine, 49K on the clock, metalic blue, 5 door.

Not sure of when any fluids were changed or topped up, only had the car 3 weeks. The fluid level in the bottle on the front of the gearbox is sitting just below the max level mark. I do know that i can grasp the inner cv joint and move it up and down where it goes into the box. i can also move the inner cv joint side to side, which it shouldnt do.
both inboard joints are the same. On our speedgear automatic, both inboard cv joints are firm in position with no up/down or sideways movement.

Just a though......Would i be able to convert the punto to manual gearbox, and do away with the dualogic/automatic ECU? Will the car still run ok with the Dualogic ECU removed?
Just a thought at the moment as i dont want to scrap the car if it is possible to convert it to manual. A replacement Dualogic box is just too expensive, even one from a scrappy is way too expensive, and that's if one can be found in a scrappy.

cheers Easterly. Got the ELM327 Cable and the Fiatecuscan free program. I will buy the registered one and then start looking for a manual box. Will the drive shafts be the same on the Manual Punto as the ones in my Dualogic? or will i need to change them?
Sorry for the questions, but better prepared than caught out.
John.
