Hi
Purchased a lovely 1967 600d last month and have spent time checking everything and cosmetically improving it.
The only problems I have found are leaks of transmission fluid from the rubber gaiters on the differential ends of the 2 drive shafts.
I ordered the gaiters and dust caps from FD Ricambi and set out today to do the job myself.
Starting on the LHS shaft, I undid the bolts on the outer coupling sleeve and thought I would then be able to swop the gaiters but clearly it is not that simple. I guess that I also will have to undo and remove the flexible coupling itself to get space at the outer drive shaft end to remove the old gaiter and fit the new one? Can anyone please advise as I am reluctant to proceed without more information or clarification regarding how best to do this and whether any special tools or skills are needed! I see that there is a 'snap ring' and a spring involved for example. Can't find any help so far elsewhere on Youtube etc!!
I just hope that I can in fact change the gaiters this way (as was done for me previously by a local garage on a 1974 Fiat 126 I owned last year) and that there is no need to remove anything at the differential/gearbox end!!
Would really appreciate any help please on this so I can decide whether or not it is something I can do myself.
Thanks everyone.
