Hi to all, I'm a Newbie to forums, so here's my 1st bash
Can anyone advise if the egr valve on 1.9jtd multi would make the red engine light flash on and then off when accelerating? Get to 4000 revs in 3rd and 4th, but only just over 3000 in 5th. If I back off acceleration after it appears, the light mostly goes off. If it doesn't go off straight away, if I drop in speed and then try and accelerate hard from 3rd again, the light goes off. I've read some posts and not sure if the problem could be blocked egr valve.

It's not possible to say what has caused the light to come on. Without other symptoms you can't even guess. The only course is to cet the fault codes read. This means a garage or access to a 3rd party device or PC software such as Multiecuscan (MES) or AlfaOBD and an interface. If you are a DIYer it's worth buying an interface and getting a copy of MES, even the "free" version initally. The handheld code readers are OK but do not give as much information as MES.

i wouldn't take it to a garage mate as they'll more than likely charge at least £30 for the privilege of reading the fault code or codes , go to a local car parts shop and ask them for a code reader you can get them next to nothing that'll read the code and tell you what it is , plus if the eml comes on again in the future you can just plug it in and read away , saving you money
example like the one i got for mine off ebay , mine was a tenner.

Hmm, now £16.99. Says business seller and item in UK but contact details are

Good luck getting your money back if it does not work. For anyone with an old laptop lying around MES of AlfaOBD are a much better option. Admittedly £17 is less than a garage, but I try not to buy from selllers without a UK address. For basic stuff you can even get a bletooth adaptor and use a tablet or phone and the trial version of MES or AlfaOBD. If you are near Cambridge, bring it around and I'll run my MES setup on it.
