Hi
Well I have just replaced the radiator and done a complete coolant flush on a Fiat Ducato Motorhome, but not the same engine size as yours. Mine is a 1.9TD on a 1997 plate. So not sure if the engine and coolant system is the same or not.
If it is then it's not too difficult, like you I done some research first and various people were saying that it was really difficult job to do.
My expansion tank is bolted to the top of the bulk head, next to the battery. My radiator down the bottom on the left hand side (bearing in mind mine is LHD) there was a black screw. Remove this to empty radiator and coolant system.
Do do a really good flush, you need to also locate and remove your engine block coolant drain plug. Mine was located at the front towards the bottom just above the starter motor. (Not at the rear like I read on another forum thread)
Stupid place really as when you remove it all the coolant pours over the starter motor. I used a plastic sheet to protect the starter motor.
Use an hose pipe to plush the water through until it runs clear. Also best to remove the thermostat to allow water to pass through that way. As thermostat when cold is in closed position.
Hope this is of some help to you.
