Our 500TA has a normal hex bolt.
I'm considering getting one of these ready for the next oil change.

Mick, the TA has a completely different drain plug to the tapered plugs used on the 1.2/1.4 (and most other fiats).
1.2/1.4 engines require a 12mm allen socket as previously posted. There is no sump washer on these engines.

12mm HEX socket head , have been since my 1st FIAT - 1050 sport
the one question that nobody seems keen to answer ,
the 1.3 MJ Diesel - what plug arrangement on that..??

Thanks JR, for the info regarding the drain plug differences. I should have known that a TA is "different".
We used to have a Peugeot 205, and that had a square socket head plug, but it still had a washer.
Yes, Werdna, I may buy the one with the tube arrangement. I reckon it's a great idea to make oil changes easier.
With our TA, the first thing to do is to jack up the front to get at the cover bolts and slide it out, then it's get right under to put the socket onto the hex right at the back of the sump. The plug isn't well designed IMHO. The hex is very shallow and unless you get the socket onto it really square, there's a danger of rounding it off. It would be better to have a standard hex depth and I considered measuring up and making my own from a proper bolt. There's plenty room to fit a proper bolt head.
