How do you know this is happening? Book says a light will come on when it needs to happen. Wouldn't it make sense to have a light that comes on when its happening? I've never noticed the smoking or the mpg drop? just want to be sure its happening now and again.

The process is largely automatic.The regeneration cycle depends on your driving style and is determined by the cars computer unit.Its difficult to determine when the DPF is regenerating,in my experience I would say that the engine feels different if that makes any sense and its difficult to maintain optimum MPG on the digital display.As far as the warning light is concerned this [generic warning triangle] illuminates when the automatic process is unable to clear the filter.All you need to do is keep driving until it goes out,it usually takes about 20 minutes or there abouts.
 
I used to work somewhere where we handled a lot of 1.9 jtd multiplas. We used to regenerate the dpf by parking the car with the throttle jamed at 3000rpm. Seemed to do the trick.
 
My 1.9 mjet hasn't got one i can tell ya that, thank god they seem more trouble than they are worth.
 
I'm assuming it does. 09 1.3 mjet. Thought by law it would have to. I've had no light etc, I'just rather be sure it was doing it now and again like. would make clear sense for the dash to tell us it was doing it you'd think .
 
Pretty sure all UK 1.3 mjet GP`s were not fitted with a DPF.But that changed with the introduction of the Punto Evo.
 
Ah right... well I hope that's the case. I don't really care if the car behind me is choking on the nice particles :)
 
DPF's were only fitted to meet the Euro 5 regs really... Fiat made some compliant before it was necessary (as early as 2006).

If it has got a DPF, the regeneration warning lamp will illuminate during the dashlight's self-test when you first switch on the ignition.
 
Be glad you haven't got one. They are the ****test thing ever on a diesel. Cause nothing but trouble, EGR's are just as bad!
 
When were these regs introduces then?
