Hi My tipo drivr side door lock does not engage properly when closed and has to be locked once actually closed to stop it falling open. I live in portugal and parts are hard to get, can I fix this myself or does any body know what the kind of price for a replacement door lock i should expect to pay. Cheers

I think he means the door latch isnt keeping the door closed Steve.

Tipo/Tempra central locking can play up, but that doesnt cause this problem.

It might have gone dry & corroded internally & may just need lubricating. Try oiling the latch in the door shut with an aerosol penetrating fluid or light oil, like WD40. If that doesnt work then remove the interior door trim & spray inside there, moving it by opening & closing the door as you go. If that doesnt work you probably need a new latch.

The central locking solonoid (motor) is incorpirated into the latch mechinism, so they arent cheap. I think my last one was around 110 Euro from Fiat.

I dont know if you have scrap yards near you, but Tempra or Tipo ones physically fit & you should be able to get a used one for around 15-20 Euro

Heres a picture of a scrap yard in Portugal, theres a metallic grey Tipo 5 door to the right of the red Renault 5, I`ve highlighted it... I`m sure there will be something similar close to you.

Ebay is another option.
