Technical Inside Door handle mechanism

**This is a problem with the driver door only.**

the Indoor driver side door handle will lock and unlock manually or with fob however when I try to open the door from inside the handle doesnt open the door. I have to power the window down and unlock the driver door from outside or crawl over the passenger seat and use the handle on the passenger side and exit that way!

I spoke over the phone with a mechanic. He said I should compare the driver door with the passenger door ... I think he said on the side?? I have no idea what he meant. Can anyone clarify what he might have meant and what i should look for?

Any other suggestions

Sounds like the cable going to the interior handle has fallen off (just behind the interior handle) , or the cable has broken.

So you'll need to get the inside door panel off....

The silver trim round the handle just pops off, then theres a screw there , and another screw behind a clip on cover where you put your hand to pull the door shut. (depending on the year of your car there are two more on the side (where the door latch is) hidden under two round covers)

Then , you use a plastic pry bar (where the arrows are) and start to pull the whole door panel bit by bit off starting at the bottom edges/corners... the broken cable or disconnected cable should then be obvious

The pic shows the passenger but driver is the exact same
