...for asking this kind of stuff, but surely they are newbie questions :) UK-based newbies probably won't ever ask, because surely they already know, but being Italian there are some things I don't understand very well

What are you referring to with MOT? Is it the periodical revision that vehicles are subject to?

I read about different "letter-reg", e.g. a car that is J reg or so: what does it mean? Is a table available somewhere which lists the specifications of the vehicles for each category?

Thank you!

Hiya, yep, the MOT is a test the vehicle goes through once every 12 months (a test most drivers dread) or at least i do, i start looking for new cars in the lead up to it in case it fails and i can't afford to have th repairs done.

The registration plate letter refers to the year the car was registered G reg was 1990, H reg 1991 and so on till we get to i think the S reg which shared its year with the R reg (1998) after that the cars were produced every 6 months instead every 12.

Think thats right innit guys?

I thought that 1989 was the G reg and 1990 was the H reg well it was on my Maestro and cavalier any way ;) Oh yes the dreaded MOT feared by the motorist in this country  Why I dont know though because if you keep you car serviced and road worthy then you have nothing to fear the part I dont like is handing over the £44 odd for the test

I think G reg was late 89 and early 1990 cause my H reg Micra was 1991. So i think H reg then was late 90 early 91 :bang: Crikey i'm dumb(y)

Thanks for your explanations!

Here new cars have this kind of check done after 4 years, since then every 2 years. Until some years ago, the first check was after 11 years (!) and then every 5 years.

Now the "letter-reg" thing is much clearer :)
I thought it was something related to the type of car, and of course I was wrong ;)

Ciao!
