i have swapped the cambelt on my 2004 1.9 jtd, i have locked the crank with the fiat locking tool, although my kit does not include anything to lock the camshaft, it just tells you to line up notch on cam pulley with pointer on cover (sealey tools website) however i have also seen in my mates cambelt book that the cam pulley should be 7 teeth forward of this pointer, although this was the setting for a marea jtd as his book had no listing for the doblo, either way i have not seen anywher a setting for the pump. please can somone help me its driving me mad! regards, geoff.

Hello as far as I am aware, it does not have to be timed, but I am no expert, we had a diesel ulysse on a 2000 plate and had a new high pressure pump fitted this did not need timing, your injectors should be operated electronically by the ecu i think.
best of luck with it.

Changed my timing belt last year the diesel pump on the 1.9jtd
does not require timming set up:)

Re: does the diesel pump need timing on a 1.9 jtd?

Probably not.
I drive my Fiorino Diesel for 9 years and 200.000 km's (125.000mls) and I have never adjusted the pump after a cambelt change.
As a rule: if the engine starts ok, runs ok, and (very important) the fuelconsumption is ok after a cambelt change, you're done, don't touch the pump.
But if you do want the timing be checked, go to a Diesel specialist, over here in Holland, we have Bosch Service Centers, specialized in Diesel engines, sure there are similar in the UK.

Hi, Well I change my cambelt on my doblo and I'm no mechanic, did'nt have any problems (1.9jtd) and don't worry about the pump, are you having a problem with starting afterwards?
shifty

hi, yes it would not fire up. but ive since sorted out the problem. ill try be brief so as not to bore anyone! In an effort to find tdc i tried to remove injector no 1, but it just come apart in two halfs, and before it went back together a small spring (no bigger than in a biro) had fell out onto the engine, it seems that if injector no1 doesnt fire , the other 3 wont fire, it was pure luck that i found it because i had swapped the alternator and decided to also do the cambelt (swapping the alternator requires taking drive shaft off and dropping the engine ) while the engine was hanging i had got it into my head that a wire had sretched and come unpluged or snapped, so was not even looking for that little spring, as it turns out my timing was spot on, although it is a bit confusing when the cambelt book tells you that for that engine its 7 teeth in front of the pointer on the cam cover, as it turns out this only applies to earlier engine numbers, mines on the marker, i suppose the morral of this storey is, dont mess with the injectors unless you have the correct tools to remove them, regards, geoff.

So it's running OK now?
yes runs sweet and starts on the button, but have not had chance to road test it due to the fact that the brand new alternator i bought off e-bay turned out to be faulty, it was not giving a charge out so had to send it back, i got the replacement yesterday so will be fitting it tomorrow, the whole things been a nightmare, its been off the road for 6 weeks, regards, geoff

Keep us informed!
the second alternator lasted less than 1 mile before it packed in, red warning light on again, rang the company they said it was another brand new unit that they had sent out, but i know it was my original they tried to repair, so that went back for the second time, i am waiting for a refund(e-bay) since got another new one this time from fiat main dealer, car now back on road an runs spot on, however having to swap it 3 times and car being of the for 6 weeks in total has left me drained! regards, geoff.

Hi,

It depends on how careful you are , How much experience you have on the spanners and how many cam belts you have changed.

Cheers

Jack
