Hi

Think I've discovered where my oil leak is coming from on my 1997 1.9TD Fiat Ducato. The part in the picture situated on the lower part of the front of the engine behind the oil filter/cooler, the small piece of connector hose was badly persihed and had cracks in.

This could also explain why recently I've been experiencing oil spraying from the dipstick and whining/whoshing I think (sounds like a loud rushing of air) noise everytime I press my foot down on the accelerator pedal.

Trouble is I don't know what is the name of this part shown in the pic, the other end is connected to the bottom of the air filter, so I am thinking it could be the PCV valve of some sort. Or just a breather for the oil as it was covered in oil when I removed it.

If anyone recognises this part, I would be vert grateful if you could just leave a quick message telling me what it is and what it's used for.

It is described in the official Fiat diagrams under "Lubrication System" only as "body", with few other clues.

I can, however, find references to it describing it as the "oil pressure regulator".

e.g. here

https://www.99rpm.com/fiat/oil-pressure-switch-regulator-1-7d-uno.html

(Same part number, different application).

Frankly, it simply looks like an oil breather to me (which, by only a short stretch of imagination, could be described as an oil-pressure regulator).

Hi thanks for your reply, yes I too checked the official Fiat diagrams to find only that it is labelled as 'Body'
It looks like the same pasrt used on the diagram for the Fiat Uno labelled as Oil Pressure Regulator, however what's strange is that the other end of mine goes to the bottom of the Air Filter Housing whereas the Fiat the one shown on the Fiat Uno goes back round to, the cyclinder head.

Found it here but unfortunately I don't speak or understand Spanish. I got the gases part lol Translated it reads 'Body Breathing Gases'

A similar part is used on a lot of older Fiat petrol and diesel engines. It's an oil vapour separator; part of the crankcase ventilation system. It has nothing to do with oil pressure regulation, that's done by a sprung loaded valve in the oil pump.

It has a thin paper gasket sealing it to the engine block, and a fibre or copper washer sealing the bolt head. There are no moving parts in it, so unless the aluminium body is cracked, you probably only need a new gasket or washer, or the bolt tightening.

Diagram below is for the 1930D engine. Part numbers may be different if you have a different engine.

Hi thank you very much for your information, yes that is my part and how it looks like, mine is a 1930TD but looks identical layout. So it's part of the PCV system which was my initial guess and expalins why I've been recently experiencing pressure in the coolant system and oil leaks from that area as the little hose that goes from the engine to this oil vapour separator had disentigrated and had cracks all around it.

Thanks again
