a special tool for the 1.8 to lock the cams, so you can time it up? apparently i need one but i dont have the £100, maybe someone has one that lives local to me?

or does anyone know how to time up the engine without using the tool? there are no marks (apart from 1 to align the fly wheel)

any technical people out there?

any help much appriciated

yeh but you need to have the engine working and timed up to tipex it in its correct place. my cambelt unfortunatly snapped so i am trying to time up a new cylinder head.

hampshire, farnborough to be exact.

what is the difference between these?
will they both do the job?
theres quite a price difference.

there are two notches in the camshaft pullys u need to lign them up. i suggest you get a haynes manual if you dont have one already.

mate, i would advise that you tap up your local fiat service agent and offer them a drink to borrow the locking kit! its an impossible task without the kit, and you run the risk of bending all 16 valves again, the marks on the pulleys dont line up when the followers are in the right place! i know this beacuse i have replaced the head on my 1.8 and it was a pain in the arse, luckily i have a pet fiat mechanic!! seriously mate, tap up a fiat agent and borrow a locking kit! and also purchase a haynes manual! impossible task without both really!
