Wonder if anyone can help please. I've got a 2009 Doblo 1.9 deisel turbo. For a couple of weeks I've been having trouble with starting it. On trying to start it, it would turn over but badly mis-fire, after trying 3 or 4 times it would run properly. Found out by trial and error that starting it without touching the accelerator when cold it usually starts first time, and when warm depressing the accelerator would usually work. Problem re-occurs every now and again, particularly when trying to re-start after a short trip. Any ideas what might be causing this problem ?

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your reply.

I've had the Doblo from new, it's now done 62,000 miles, and I've had it serviced by the local Fiat dealer at all the right times.

The Fiat dealer recently changed the EGR valve, which made the car Doblo run more smoothly, but unfortunately didn't sort out the starting problem.

I'm not over confident with the Fiat Dealer, and would like to try and find out what the likely problem is before going back to them, or maybe trying an independant garage.

Thanks,

Will.

Intermittent faults are hard to find so it doesn't really matter who you take the car to because if the fault cannot be reproduced then it leave little to go on.

As much information you can provide is vita to accurate diagnosis however there are things you can do beforehand, try a bottle of diesel cleaner in the fuel and give it a few good blasts along the motorway. Can you see any fuel leaks especially around pump/injectors. You fault does sound like a possible EGR sticking open however I would also take a closer look at the paraeters and carefully monitor the temp/throttle sensors and injectors.
