Technical Doblo Problem

Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas or experience of the followin g problem I have with my 55 reg doblo 1.9 JTD engine.

On occasions when there is a wind chill, when I start the vehicle or when I'm running in the first ten miles or so the accelerator can jam wide open. This is disconcerting to say the least and on the road can be potentially serious. I'm told by my garage nothing shows up on the diagnostics and they have tried to re-create the problem but to no avail. I can almost predict when it will happen (cold wind, car in exposed position) and have successfully re-created it in my driveway twice, once blowing all the gravel away around the exhaust before switching off so as not to blow things up.
At other times it has happened at a junction (3) and at spped on the city bypass (3). Normally lifting the 'dead' pedal and blipping it works but the only other recourse is to switch off which is not so easy when moving in traffic.

I'm told by the garage they have asked around and can find no other reports of this problem - hence my approach to a wider audience for any similar experiences, reports or suggestions.

could be a sticking switch on the pedal needs freeing the throttle is fly by wire controlled

This may sound a bit strange (and obvious) but is just a suggestion

Do you have carpet mats fitted? There's a large block under the pedal which hits a plastic plate in the floor to stop it going down too far. This block sometimes gets caught on the edge of my mat if I put it all the way down and seems to stick then on the plastic plate. All I know I have to do is kick the mat back and hit the throttle. This has only happened 3 or 4 times since I've had the car though.

Check the area between the block and plate is clear, and that nothing could cause the block to "stick" to the plate in the floor.

What are you doing flooring it anyway you shouldl be saving fuel

I had the exact problem with my old 33 QV - pedal used to get stuck under the mat and WOOOO AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!! cos that beast could fly.

Its bowel looseningly frightening :devil:

Never happened to the Doblo though

It's worse on the Doblo cause it usually happens after I've floored it in first gear and as I dip the clutch I think hang on why am I hitting the Rev Limiter and the guy behind me can't see due to all the smoke

I have a fear that one day it'll happen and I'll wonder why there's smoke inside the cabin and it's no longer hitting the rev limiter although when I was at the Fiat garage not so long ago, a mechanic had a Doblo JTD in (it was a van) and revved it right up - you should have seen the smoke. Whether he was preparing it for an MOT I don't know

Yes inseted correctly Niall & i'll hold my hand up & say I never knew about this however it seems like the same problem as Ducatos have,modified throttle stop.

Great find guys only one problem...

Ali Skinner's car is an 05 model and those recalls were back in 2002. I would hope that by now Fiat are fitting the modified stops as standard
