Well the dreaded ABS light appeared a few weeks ago, and was a veritable pain trying to cure it.
Decided to download Multiecuscan full package in my quest to defeat the problem.
Having recently replaced both front discs, and brakes and r/h front ABS sensor, and still driving with the ABS light on. I scanned it with
Multiecuscan.
MES came up with " Front left wheel sensor in O.C"
So naturally enough, I went off to buy the second new ABS sensor to compliment the new one fitted on the r/h side.
Strangely enough, this is where things got more interesting.
New sensor fitted. Now to erase the codes, and bobs your uncle. Except he wasn't in this case.
Codes now went from "incoherant signal, wheel speed sensor in O.C. accelerator/brake signal incoherant. Not all at the same time, but on occasion they were.
Now i was well baffled. Next I checked the wiring, plug connector, which I thought may be the isssue. So i removed the plug at the harness side, and spliced in a new connection.
Out with MES, and erased the code, no joy it wouldn,t erase. Back to the ABS module which was removed, opened, and prepped for surgery, as I was convinced it had to be this.
On inspection I could not find any visual loose terminals, but was convinced that the connector pins coming through the pcb could well have issues, as they looked very short of solder. So out with the gun, and reflowed solder
on all the plug terminal pins.
Back on with the cover, and back on to the car. Out with the MES. Erase the codes, no joy. Convinced now that the usual suspect ABS module was guilty. Bought a known working secondhand replacement.
On to the car, MES scan. Errors present and stored. Damn.:bang:
Considered sacrificing the dog, but them huskies can move when they want to.
So I,ve either got two scrap ABS modules, or a bad module plug connector.
Round two.
Took the connector cover off and inspected the plug contacts with magnified watchmakers glasses. Connections looked as though they could do with a bit of TLC. Cleaned and tightened and replaced back together, and back on the car, plugged in to the ABS unit.
MES scanned, fault still present. Pulling the last of me hair out now.
Checked it later in the day, errors cleared, no fault present. Last hair gone.:bang::bang:
Still had no clue what the real issue was. MES scanned again and no fault present. Scanned another Doblo with the same ABS, and my scanned ABS was identical when there was no errors.
At this stage I could reproduce the OC fault, at will by moving the car 5mm, cancel it, and then reproduce it by moving it 5mm, rinse and repeat. So things pointed to the signal from the wheel to ABS module.
But it couldn,t be the wheel sensor , because it was new, although it was bought from a different manufacturer. Still convinced it was a wiring/harness issue at this stage.
But I had read about new sensor issues on other Doblos, so went for broke, and bought another new one that matched the manufacturer and sensor from the r/h side.
Went to fit it today, but noticed it was slightly larger than the previous new sensor. Cleaned the hole more thouroughly so that the second sensor fitted snuggly.
Mes scanned, errors cleared. Light is out and operating correctly
Just thought I,d share.
I would never have thought that the problem was with the sensor I bought at the start, just to let others know that have this ABS issue.
