Hello.

I have just bought a 1988 MK1 Fiat UNO 70SL in white. The previous owner was going to scrap it if someone didn't buy it. I felt sorry for the little thing as it was sitting alone and just needed someone to give it a warm home and a bit of a tidy up. I gave the man $200, put some petrol in it and drove off home. It zipped along fine on the motorway and sat at 100km without any troubles (yay for it being a 5 speed).

There are a few things that I need to get sorted before I'll put it back on the road, like replacing the 4 doors as they are rusty and the front wing which is dented. But generally it just needs a good tidy inside and out.

I also managed to pick up a genuine MK1 Turbo rear hatch (complete with window) for $10. I think that'll help smarten up the exterior.

Beyond that I intend to do a little work on the engine, fit some turbo wheel arch extensions and find some decent Fiat alloys. It'll also need a respray at some point in the near future. I think it'll be a fun project for me during the upcoming winter.

Hello and welcome to the Forum!

You can post pictures of your car in the Members Motors section too, and for more detailed Uno information come and visit the Uno section. (y)

Quite a rare car you have there, though we have another member from New Zealand who also has a 70SL Uno! He occasionally posts in the Uno section.

Anyway, sounds like you have a similar project to me. I just recently acquired a mk1 1989 Uno 70 SX that will hopefully be going on the road very soon. Good luck and stick with it. If yours is a good example of a Uno then you'll have a fun car to play with!

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

In that case I am even more pleased to have saved it from the wreckers. (y)

I have already begun perusing the Uno section and I am very impressed with all of the tidbits of information in there. A lot of inspiration, that is for sure.

I do have a rather embarrassing newbie Uno owner question. Where is the bonnet release located? I've looked everywhere under the drivers dash and in the footwell to no avial. I did find the boot release though! :D

It should be in the same place as UK Unos. At the left hand side of the dashboard you should see the fuse box hanging down below it. The bonnet release catch should be to the left of this, a black 'C' shaped catch attached to the side of the passenger footwell. You pull it towards you and the bonnet should pop open (y)

It worked, thank you. I didn't think to look in the passenger footwell.

At least I know it definitely has an engine now :D
